In the newest game from Codemasters and Blue Omega Entertainment, when your character points his gun straight up and shoots at the sky in victory, chances are you just might hit someone. Damnation takes the next step in the evolution of the shooter genre by going vertical.
Set in America ravaged by a forty-year war, Damnation drops the player into the middle of a battle that rages up, down and miles across. At the heart of the war is industrialist W.D. Prescott, head of Prescott Standard Industries. He has unleashed an army to take control of the country. Like any potential dictator, he is rebelled against. In this case by a group of guerilla fighters called the Peacekeepers. Players control Captain Hamilton Rourke, leader of the Peacekeepers, on his epic journey to reveal the sinister truth behind Prescott Standard Industries, locate his lost love, and save the country.
As Rourke, players traverse miles of horizontal distance and thousands of vertical feet, flooded with hostile troops. He must leap, climb, dodge and shoot his way through the various possible paths to his goal in huge three-dimensional landscapes. Game control is intuitive. If a player wants to grab a ledge, pressing the jump button will cause the character to take hold. This allows players to crash through windows, scale buildings and use zip-wires to move through the mission.

With a massive landscape, players can count on at least a three-hour trek to get from one end to another, or from top to bottom. With so many possible paths, strategy is a players best friend. But it won't be easy. While mapping the way to their goal, players will have to avoid enemies that attack from every direction. The game uses a highly intelligent AI, making for challenging encounters.
To make it through players will have to use the tools at their disposal which include high-octane vehicles like wall-riding motorbike and an array of steampunk-inspired weaponry with intimidating names like ' Auto Revolvers,' 'Dark Seraph Rifles,' and ' Rail Road Spike Guns.' Players can also use Spirit Vision, a gift that allows Rourke to identify hidden enemies throughout the levels by seeing through walls and anticipating enemy moves.

Damnation gives players the chance to play through the campaign solo or in drop-in-drop-out co-operative play. There are also four different action packed multiplayer modes for up to eight players in each map. Multiplayer modes include Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, King of the Hill and Capture the Flag.
Damnation is a bold new take on the first person shooter that fans will want to check out. It is set for release in spring of 2009.
