Even Sony now admits the launch of the Playstation 3 was rough. Through the barren landscape of good games during that launch window, SCEA did have one ace, Resistance: Fall of Man. Winning both critical acclaim and market and fan success, Insomniac's new take on a WWII shooter drove the PS3 through the rough initial times. Well now the Sony's mean-machine is getting into full gear and Insomniac is getting ready to drop another megaton hit in the form of a blockbuster sequel.

Resistance 2 continues the war against the vile Chimera and their threat of global domination –which has found its way to the United States. You, again, step into the combat boots of hero Nathan Hale. Once infected by the Chimera virus, Hale's natural immunity seemed to help him absorb the virus' strengths but saving him from the death and transformation it usually brings. But all is not well for the hero. His body's resistance is failing and he may only have precious hours left to save the world.

Not only is Resistance 2 planning to deliver on the storytelling front, but it is one of the most content packed games we have seen. Boasting not one, but two full, giant campaigns is only the beginning with one of the campaigns being reserved entirely for co-op. But this isn't your Gears of War find a buddy co-op. Resistance 2 puts you and seven (yes seven making a grand total of eight-player cooperative play!) other buddies geared up, and in the heat of combat. But don't expect to be replaying the same plot over again. As stated, the co-op plot and the single-player plot are completely different experiences, almost to the point of being stand-alone titles. The story will be parallel to the single-player experience, but offer new insight to the story and events that occur throughout the game.

So Insomniac is packing an amazing campaign experience, and even a second campaign in the form of eight-player co-op. Surely they can't be planning any more unprecedented feats of content magic, right? Wrong. Insomniac isn't content on just giving games the story-driven experience; they want to let us battle it out online - and battle we will. With the possibility for 60 person battles, it's hard not to get excited about the prospect of all out war on the online front.

With Resistance 2 shaping up to be a truly blockbuster release, and the fact that our early experience with the game has been simply fantastic for this early in the development cycle, it is hard not to get excited. Finally the Playstation 3 is gearing up to give us the system-selling, triple-A titles. Get ready to take the fight to the Chimera this November!
