Everyone knows who James Bond is. That debonair, classy, incredibly intelligent, trained killer has definitely made his mark in the entertainment history. From classic movies and blockbuster hits, to one historical video game success and many, not-quite-as-good sequels. Bond has managed to save the world time and time again, all without messing his hair or ruffling his tux. While his success in gaming has been more of a teeter-totter, the developers over at Treyarch hope to revive the franchise and get it right the first go around. Quantum of Solace, slated for release this fall, follows the story of both Casino Royale and the new Bond flick, Quantum of Solace - also hitting theaters later this fall. In fact, the game will even let you choose which story line you want to start with. It even includes some of the more memorable scenes from the movies for the player to experience firsthand. For example, the intense free-running scene at the beginning of Casino Royale makes an appearance in the game and is sure to be a fan favorite among the sequences offered. Players can also expect to travel to all the exotic locales that Bond is famous for, such as, London, Bolivia, Miami, and Venice. Quantum of Solace features stunning graphics in the detailed environments of the game, with granite and marble pillars that deteriorate under heavy fire, to an amazing pool with realistic distortion when gazing at the tile underneath, and breath-taking recreations of the featured cities. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that the same dedication went into the people of the game. The character models are very average and they just seem to lack a certain personality and polish. Granted the game is still a bit off, so we can only hope they come out looking as good as the rest of the game. But what the game lacks graphically, it may make up in gameplay. Treyarch has reinvented the tone of the gameplay from the original classic Golden Eye to hopefully bring new life into the struggling franchise. While some parts of the game will have you fighting off wave after wave of enemies, in other instances Bond will have to use a more stealthy approach to achieve his objectives. This doesn't necessarily mean players will get the chance to swoon a beautiful vixen into "keeping you company" through the night. No, we're talking more like sneaking up on some muscle brain and giving him a firm shot to the temple with your elbow to incapacitate him, or popping a few shots off from a silenced PPK for a more permanent solution. Another welcome addition to the new and improved gameplay is the tweaked cover system. When Bond takes cover, the first person perspective zooms out into a more, Vegas style, 3rd person view. There has also been talk of a multiplayer component, but Treyarch hasn't released any solid information on this feature yet. Hopefully they have a way to keep the proposed multiplayer interesting, although we personally would rather see more work put into the visual presentation and story than have a tacked on online aspect. Treyarch has stated that they are looking at Quantum of Solace as more of a new franchise, we hope that it doesn't fall into some of its predecessors less impressive footsteps. However, Treyarch and Activision seem to have high hopes in getting the game right the first time and making Quantum of Solace more like the recent turnaround that Bond has seen in the movie theaters.
