Not looking to be outdone by the console release of Street Fighter IV, the Nintendo Wii will be getting its own arcade port this year in the form of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Pitting characters from Capcom's celebrated video game franchises with Tatsunoko's popular anime series, this fighter looks to revitalize the Vs. franchise and offer exclusive content for its upcoming Wii release. With any fighting game, players are most concerned with the roster and Tatunoko vs. Capcom offers a great cast of familiar faces. While Capcom's side can look to have a high dose of characters from the Street Fighter universe, newcomers to the Vs. series will keep things interesting. Along with Ryu, Chun-Li, Alex and Morrigan of Darkstalkers, players will be able to choose from: PTX-40A from Lost Planet, Suki of Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, Batsu Ichimonji of Rival School fame, and Mega Man Volnutt. Tastunoko's roster will be equally diverse. Doronjo and Yatterman of the Yatterman series, Casshern of Neo Human Casshern, and Ken the Eagle of Science Ninja Team Gotchaman, are few of the confirmed characters so far. Capcom has made several gameplay changes to their nearly perfected fighting game formula. For starters, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom will feature a four button set-up as opposed to the classic six. As Capcom's Vs. franchises have evolved, so too has the complexity of its characters' special moves and combos. By eliminating two buttons, Capcom looks to make this game less difficult for beginners and a more enjoyable experience. Along with the trimmed down button options, Capcom has also made adjustments to the game's speed. Fans will remember that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 had players competing at lighting fast speeds with newcomers often overwhelmed by all the on-screen action. The gameplay here has been significantly slowed down in an attempt to broaden the audience and increase the accessibility of the game. It may disappoint veteran fighting game fans, but the slow pacing will have playing focusing less on their reflexes and more on their overall movement. While gorgeously rendered in 3D, Tastunoko vs. Capcom is a traditional 2D fighting game. The graphics are bright and intense as screen filling super moves and classic specials will dazzle the eye and keep the player entertained. Backgrounds have been modeled after familiar locales in each corresponding universe. One background had players battling it out on an airship from the Mega Man Legends series, featuring those loveable Servbots dancing to the music and operating cranes as the competitors continued to fight. The Wii port will play host to a number of exclusive characters and additional content. Capcom has announced Roll, the plucky sister of Capcom favorite Mega Man, and Jun the Swan of Science Ninja Team Gotchaman for the Wii release and players can also expect addictive Mini-Games and extra features as well. It's a shame that such an interesting and obviously fun title might not reach an audience outside of Japan. With licensing issues still its greatest concern, Capcom USA is trying its best to ensure a worldwide release for Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. With the Wii version nearing completion and the promise of Tatsunoko handling the character endings, this fighting game is looking to be something special. Tatsunoko vs. Capcom will be out for the Nintendo Wii and Arcades in December later this year. Share/Bookmark:
