New copies of Mass Effect 2 get packagedBy: Steve Haske, Contributing Writer |
Chances are high if you like Mass Effect, you'll be picking up its high profile sequel when it launches later this month.
But what if wait until you can get the game used?
Then, chances are, you're out of luck. As was the case with The Saboteur and Dragon Age: Origins before that, EA is including extra incentives to those who buy Mass Effect 2 new. It's part of an ongoing action against used game sales, which EA hopes to discourage by offering packaged in-game goods available to download when you buy their games new.
New copies of Mass Effect 2 will include a one-time use code to download the Cereberus Network, an in-game portal for Mass Effect 2 news and DLC updates. If you don't buy the game new, this service will cost an undisclosed amount of cash to download later on.
Some of the launch DLC includes new in-game items and missions, according to an EA press release: "Included in this pack is a mission that introduces Zaeed, a rugged and deadly gun-for-hire who is recruited to join Commander Shepard's mission to save mankind".
Plans for further DLC detail expansions in the form of a new hovertank, The Hammerhead, a new M-22 Evicerator shotgun and the Cereberus Assault Armor, which upgrades shields, health and heavy ammunition, according to the release. No price points for any DLC were disclosed.
Mass Effect 2 hits stores January 26th.
