Once known as Project Needlemouse, Sega has lifted the veil of secrecy off of its 2D Sonic project, officially naming it at Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

According to Sega, Sonic will be the the only playable character this time around as the game will act as direct sequel to the 1994 Genesis title, Sonic and Knucles.  And just to sweeten the deal, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will also be episodic. You can go ahead and wipe away those tears of joy now.

You can catch the teaser trailer here.
