There was great weeping and gnashing of teeth at the announcement that Microsoft would be shutting down the Halo 2 servers, but this cloud has a silver lining. Apparently, those gamers who stuck around to the bitter end are being rewarded by Microsoft with a whole mound of free goodies as a way of saying thanks.

Microsoft has been circulating an email to the diehards, offering them free 3 month Xbox Live Gold memberships, 400 MS points and access to the Halo: Reach beta "because you've been so loyal to Halo." So take note people, continue playing a game years past its prime and you just might get free stuff out of it. Maybe I should dust off my old copy of Crazy Taxi and see if I can scare up some free junk.
