Arkham Asylum 2 Slipping to 2011?By: Brad Hilderbrand, Contributing Writer |
Batman: Arkham Asylum was a bit of a pleasant surprise, giving gaming enthusiasts a superhero-based title that was actually worth playing. Thus, fans squealed with delight not only at the announcement of an inevitable sequel, but also the fact that it was slated to arrive sometime in 2010. Unfortunately it seems that the Joker and his cronies may have gotten sabotaged things, as retailers are reporting that the game has slipped its release date back to Q1 2011.
According to CVG a retail source has told them that Warner Bros want to "avoid releasing the game into a heavily congested pre-Christmas market." Instead, the company will hold the release back a few months so Bats can "dominate" the post-holiday vacuum.
Last year saw many games fleeing before the Modern Warfare 2 colossus, opting to instead release after the holiday rush so they wouldn't be overshadowed by the year's hottest game. This time there's no such behemoth currently dominating the holiday release landscape, and indeed some may go so far as to claim that Arkham Asylum 2 indeed was that behemoth. Still, last year taught us that gamers will gladly purchase quality titles even after New Year's, so this will likely prove to ultimately be a smart business move by Warner Bros after all.
