Modern Warfare 2 DLC Sets PS3 RecordsBy: Brad Hilderbrand, Contributing Writer |
The execs at Activision are bathing in their money today as Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling has announced that the Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus map pack has broken first-day and first-week records for downloads on the PS3. According to Bowling the maps have already been downloaded over a million times via PSN, and it doesn't take a math whiz to tell you that a million downloads + $15 a pop = An avalanche of dollar bills. If Bobby Kotick doesn't already own a solid gold everything then the final hurdles has finally been removed.
For all the grumbling about the content's price point it's hard to argue with the sales. Gamers are obviously willing to pay what some are calling an absurdly high sum for three new maps plus two updated classics, so Activision will keep charging whatever they can get away with. The consumer has said that $15 is a good value for this content, so we have to respect that.
Subsequent financial windfalls are expected next month and again later this year when Activision releases the Resurgence map pack on Xbox 360 and then later on PS3 and PC. We fully expect every Activision employee at E3 to be wearing suits composed entirely of money.
