TGS to feature less RPGs and more shooters

This is certainly a surprise. The Tokyo Game Show website has put together an interesting little breakdown of the number of titles in each genre that will be making appearance at this year's show. The list also includes a tally of the previous year's entries in parenthesis. It seems that RPGs are taking a backseat to more action oriented titles this year, mainly the shooter genre.

  • Action: 102 (115)
  • Role-playing: 26 (52)
  • Simulation: 25 (22)
  • Puzzle: 18 (59)
  • Adventure: 12 (13)
  • Shooting: 19 (10)
  • Sports: 4 (15)
  • Racing: 8 (8)
  • Development Tool: 33 (31)
  • Peripherals: 157 (28)
  • Others: 223 (103)

It's also interesting to note that RPGs went from 52 last year to a meager 26 this year.  Shooters on the other hand have nearly doubled.
